About spam from Brightbot 1.0 user agent

We are not responsible for the Brightbot 1.0 spam bot

We are aware there is a spam bot using the user agent "Brightbot 1.0" in its request header - but it's nothing to do with us or our application BrightBot. We just happen to have the same name.

Our application runs on just one server (so one IP address) and is a pretty simple chat solution.

Unfortunately the spam bot in question is software anyone can download and run so it's impossible to identify which organisation is doing the spamming just from that header information. It's likely to be running on a server farm i.e. with servers from multiple IP addresses making the requests.

You should be able to block access to requests coming from that user agent by adding a rule into the .htaccess file or equivalent.

And yes, we'll be changing our name soon!
